Live Correspondent: The government on Wednesday extended the ongoing closure of educational institutions across the country by two more weeks until February 20, considering the worsening corona situation.

Education Minister Dr. Dipu Moni in a video message said the government took the decision as the infection rate is 27.43 percent in the country.

Taking the infection rate into consideration and following the opinions of the experts, the classroom education of the students will remain closed for two more weeks, the minister said.

She urged everyone to follow the health guidelines so that the corona situation returns to normalcy and classroom activities can be resumed soon.

Earlier on January 21, the government announced the closure of schools, colleges, and equivalent educational institutions from January 21 to February 6.

Later, a circular issued by the Cabinet Division on January 20 said schools, colleges, and their equivalent educational institutions would remain closed between January 21 and February 6.

Following the decision, the authorities of the universities took a similar measure on their own, said the order that came amid a sharp rise in Covid infections following the detection of new coronavirus variant Omicron.

Earlier, the government kept all educational institutions shut for more than one and a half years from March 17, 2020, to check the outbreak of the Covid-19.

Later, in-person classes at schools, colleges, and equivalent institutions resumed on September 12, 2021.
