student rape: Protests continue for 4th day

 

Live Correspondent: Students of Dhaka University (DU)  staged demonstrations on the campus for the fourth consecutive day on Thursday seeking justice for one of their fellows who was raped at Kurmitola on Airport Road on Sunday night.

They demanded death penalty of the rapist and were shouting "We want justice, Hang the rapist". Several hundred students from different dorms and departments hold a protest rally and brought out a procession that paraded the main point of the campus.

Under the banner of ‘General Students of Dhaka University’ around 250 students hold a protest rally in front of Anti terrorism Raju memorial sculpture around 1 pm and later brought out procession on the campus.

Meanwhile, about 350 students  under the banner of ‘Members of Mass room’ burn the effigy of the rapist and brought out a black flag procession in front of Raju memorial sculpture demanding capital punishment of the rapist.

The DU student was raped in the city’s Kurmitola area on Sunday night. She is now undergoing treatment at the One-Stop Crisis Centre (OSCC) of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

The rapist was arrested from Dhaka’s Shewra rail crossing area around 4:05am on Wednesday.

Rab members recovered the mobile phone of the victim and some other items belonging to her from Mojnu.
