Dhaka University to expel 7 students over admission fraud

DU Live: The disciplinary committee of Dhaka University on Thursday recommended permanent expulsion of seven of its suspected students for their involvement in admission test forgery.

The committee also recommended to suspend 147 students of the university and its affiliated colleges and institutions for different terms for their involvement in anti-disciplinary activities.

The disciplinary committee of the university took the decision at a meeting chaired by the university vice-chancellor Akhtaruzzaman Thursday evening.

Confirming the matter DU proctor AKM Golam Rabbani said, ‘The recommendation will be finalised after the next syndicate meeting.’ ‘The students were enrolled in the university through fraudulent means in the academic sessions from 2013-14 to 2016-17,’ he added.

Moreover, two students were served show cause notice period to defend themselves for their involvement with digital fraudulence.

Meanwhile, the council also decided not to allow three teachers to evaluate examination papers in the next three years as for alleged improper grading in examination.

They are Professor ASM Atikur Rahman, Professor Golam Azam, and Associate Professor Mainuddin Molla of Social Welfare and Research Institute.

Earlier on August 6, 2019, the DU authorities suspended 69 students for cheating in admission tests.

According to Dhaka University laws, no expelled student had a chance to challenge the decision of expulsion, but suspended students could appeal against their suspension.
