BCL DU unit’s leaders, activists look cheerful

DU Live: A joyous, spirited and spontaneous attitude has been prevailing among the leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) Dhaka University unit, as the long-anticipated council of BCL DU hall units is scheduled for tomorrow.

Almost after five years, BCL DU halls will get the council on the premises of Dhaka University’s Teacher-Student Center, said BCL DU unit president Sonjit Chandra Das at a press conference in university’s Madhur Canteen.

Committee for 18 DU halls units will be formed within two or three days of the council, Sonjit said, adding “Only the candidates of hall units will attend the council maintaining health rules considering the current Covid-19 situation.”

Meanwhile, the candidates for different hall units have been seen doing their last hour activities including making contacts with senior leaders, according to sources, while the activists were gossiping at different points of the campus about the upcoming leadership.

Besides, colorful banner-festoons and posters were displayed on the premises of dormitories as well as other key areas of the campus while a number of national flags and organizational flags were placed at TSC premises.

“We hope that the expectation and wishes of those involved with the student politics will be met through the council as well as the wave of healthy and inclusive politics will be back,” said Mehedy Hasan Mizan, candidate for BCL Hazi Muhammad Mohsin Hall unit also former General Secretary of hall union.

General students along with the leaders and activists of BCL will be benefited through the council and new leadership, he added.

“It is definitely a great and crucial time for us as we are getting new leaders after almost five years. No council was held during my campus life”, said Soyod Sabbir Hossain Joy, activist of BCL Bijoy Ekattor Hall unit. “We hope the new leadership will raise their voice and work for the general students as well as for the BCL activists,” he added.

In selecting the leaders for different halls, the directives of AL President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will be given utmost priority. Besides, there is an urge to bring out the capable leaders who can lead the human resources suitable for the implementation of government's Vision 2041, said Sonjit Chandra Das.

BCL DU unit General Secretary Saddam Hussein, Convener of Hall council preparatory committee Borikul Islam Badhon, leaders and activists of different hall units were also present at the press conference.

The last DU hall council was held on November 26, 2016 and hall committees were formed in December 2016 for a one-year term, ending in December 2017.
