DU Live: The Dhaka University (DU) authority has chalked out a series of programs to observe Amar Ekushey and the International Mother Language Day on February 21 with due respect.

University’s “Central Coordination Committee for Observing Amar Ekushey” and various sub-committees will observe the day smoothly and peacefully. However, this year the celebration will be observed in limited scale and the authorities said no more than five people from an organization and no more than two visitors at a time would be allowed to pay homage at the pavement of central Shaheed Minar.

Besides, people will not be allowed to enter the premises as well as the university area on the day without facemasks. After offering Fateha at Azimpur Graveyard for the martyrs of language movement, the procession will place wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar to pay tribute to the martyrs. DU will also arrange special prayers for the martyrs at all the mosques of the campus including DU Central Mosque Masjidul Jamia after Zohr prayers.

Like previous year, there will be no arrangement for gathering and reception at the university’s central playground considering the pandemic situation. After visiting the place yesterday, DU VC Akhtaruzzaman urged people of all strata to maintain the health guidelines and observe the Ekushey with due solemnity and respect.

Everyone who wants to place floral wreaths on the main alter of the central Shaheed Minar will have to show the certificate of Covid-19 vaccination, said Akhtaruzzaman.
