2-day IICT International Symposium ends at RUET

RUET Live: A two-day International Symposium on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) ended at Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) here today. Hosted by the RUET's Institute of Information and Communication Technology (IICT), the symposium has been held with the main thrust of providing a platform for teaching, learning and research on ICT.

Vice-chancellor Prof Rafiqul Islam Sheikh and Dean of Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Prof Nazrul Islam Mondal addressed the closing ceremony as chief and special guests respectively with IICT Director and Registrar Prof Selim Hossain in the chair.

Research and Extension Director Prof Faruque Hossain, Dean of Mechanical Engineering Faculty Prof Imdadul Haque, Dean of Applied and Human Faculty Prof Sazzad Hossain and Planning and Development Director Prof Zaglul Sadat also spoke. Prof Rafiqul Islam Sheikh expected that the conference will work as an intellectual platform in future to share ideas and present the latest findings and experiences in the mentioned areas.

He said Bangladesh has become digitalised under the dynamic and visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the country's people are enjoying the benefits of modern technologies. ICT-related teachers and students of all universities should play supportive role towards retaining the government endeavours in the years to come.
 
Prof Sheikh said there are immense possibilities for the youths of the country to become self-reliant by engaging themselves in various income-generating activities. Since the ICT sector is knowledge-based, educated youths can utilize their skills and can be self-reliant through online outsourcing. The ICT sector also contributes to industrial and infrastructural development, economic growth and social prosperity.

Around 100 ICT scholars from both home and abroad, including Australia and Germany, joined the two-day symposium. In different sessions, project competition, quiz competition, gaming contest, game development and idea contest were showcased.
