RU Live: A student of Rajshahi University (RU), who was expelled for harassment of teachers, has been arrested by police. Confirming the matter, the Maihar Police Station officer in charge Tuhin said they arrested Md Ashiq Ullah, a Master's student of the Department of Law, from the campus around 4.30 pm.

Earlier, Professor Begum Asma Siddiqa, a teacher in the Law department of the university, filed a case against him under the Digital Security Act with the police station.

On Wednesday noon, the RU authorities issued a notice expelling Md Ashiq Ullah. The notice was signed by the university's proctor Professor Asabul Huque.

The notice stated that Ashiq had long been disrupting the normal academic atmosphere of the university for a long time by misbehaving with teachers and students frequently. He also threatened to kill teachers and students many times.

Ashiq Ullah also harassed Professor Begum Asma Siddiqa just after her class, on Wednesday.

Proctor Asabul Huque said several complaints were lodged against the student earlier. The student was expelled on the basis of the allegations against him and at the directive of the vice-chancellor.

Contacted, Professor Asma Siddiqa said, "The student (Ashiq Ullah) waylaid me when I just got out of the classroom ending a class of 4th-year students. I advised him to talk to the Law department's chairman when he approached me seeking a solution to an internal problem in the department. But, he misbehaved with me instead of paying any heed to my advice."

She also alleged that Ashiq Ullah used to misbehave with other teachers for a long time.

When asked, Law Department's chairman Professor Hasibul Alam Prodhan said: "We have taken steps against the accused student on behalf of the department. Earlier, an inquiry committee was formed against him.

We will request the administration to implement the committee's report. He has already been expelled from the university. We will also take necessary steps so that he cannot sit for any examination in the future."
