DU Live: Dhaka University, the oldest university and highest echelon of academic excellence celebrated its 101st founding anniversary on Friday (July 1) in a befitting manner.

Regarding this, a day-long colorful program was organized with the theme "Research and Innovation: Industry-Academia Cooperation".

The university vice-chancellor Professor Mohammad Akhtaruzzaman inaugurated the program by cutting a 102-pound cake at the central field on the university campus at around 10:00 am.

After that, the national flag as well as flags of the university and halls were hoisted on the central ground.

The university pro-vice-chancellor (administration) Professor Muhammad Samad, pro-vice-chancellor (education) Professor ASM Maksud Kamal, and proctor Professor  AKM Golam Rabbani, registrar Prabir Kumar Sarkar, teachers, students, and officials were present at the occasion.

A discussion meeting on the theme "Research and Innovation: Industry-Academia Cooperation" was held at the auditorium of the Teacher-Student Center (TSC) at 11.30 am.

A three-day research-publication fair is being held at the central ground with 10 pavilions for faculties and one for institutes.

Earlier, President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in separate messages on the eve of the day, wished success of all the programs taken on the occasion.

The university started its journey with just 877 students in three faculties and 12 departments in 1921.

It has played a vital role in Bangladesh's history. The students and teachers of the university had sacrificed their lives in the Language Movement in 1952, the Mass Upsurge in 1969, and the Liberation War in 1971.

Even the national flag of Bangladesh was first hoisted at Bot Tola on the Dhaka University campus on March 2, 1971.
