JU Live: Students of Jahangirnagar University on Sunday blocked the Dhaka-Aricha highway protesting the government’s decision to increase fuel prices.

The protestors took position in the main entrance of university and blocked the highway from 12.30pm to 1.30pm. Earlier, they brought out a procession from the university’s Murad Chattar.

In the protest rally, JU Chhatra Union general secretary Tasbibul Gani Niloy said the government is working to make the pockets of ministers and bureaucrats heavier instead of reducing the suffering of the people.

How the poor people will live after the price hike is not a concern of the government, he added.

Mentioning that the government is not paying any heed to people’s demands, Samajtantrik Chhatra Front general secretary Kanoj Kanti Roy said, “How will people meet their additional costs? Every moment the government is putting us into a structure of exploitation. This is how our blood is being sucked.”

JU Sangskritik Jote President Soumik Bagchi said price of essentials is being hiked in a festive mood. “Lame excuses are being presenting as the reason of price hike. Not only Jahangirnagar University but protest should be staged also by others from across the country.”
