Prof Nurul Alam made new Jahangirnagar University VC

JU Live: Prof Md Nurul Alam has been appointed as the vice chancellor of Jahangirnagar University for the next four years. A notification, signed by the deputy secretary of the Ministry of Education Md. Mahmudul Alam confirmed the appointment on Tuesday.

According to Article 11 (1) of the Jahangirnagar University Act 1973, the Chancellor of the university, President Abdul Hamid, appointed Prof Nurul Alam as Vice Chancellor of the university, said the notification.

Nurul Alam is a professor in the Department of Physics at the university. He had served as the Pro-VC (Education) of the University since August 14, 2016.

Earlier on March 1, Professor Md Nurul Alam was appointed as the vice-chancellor (VC) on an interim basis for the administrative needs of the University, in addition to his responsibilities as the tenure of VC Professor Dr. Farzana Islam ended. Later, on April 17, he was appointed as the vice-chancellor of the university for a temporary period.

On August 12, Prof Amir Hussain, Prof Nurul Alam, and Prof Ajit Kumar Majumdar won the VC Panel election held at Jahangirnagar University.

Prof Nurul Alam was the three-time president of Jahangirnagar University Teachers' Association (JUTA) and dean of the mathematical and physical science faculty and Pro VC (Education) of the university.

Born in Dhamrai Upazila of Dhaka in 1957, he joined the university in 1982.
