JU Live: Leaders and activists of the Jahangirnagar University (JU) unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) today staged a demonstration on the campus protesting the murder of former JU student and Awami League leader Duronto Biplob.

Over 200 leaders and activists of the ruling Awami League-affiliated student wing formed a human chain at central Shaheed Minar premises of the university at about 12:30 pm.

A former student of the Drama and Dramatics department of Jahangirnagar University (19th Batch) Duronto Biplob was a member of the agriculture and cooperatives sub-committee of the Bangladesh Awami League. He was also the former general secretary of Jahangirnagar University's BCL unit.

Addressing the human chain JU BCL President Akhtaruzzaman Sohel said, "While our Hon'ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is striving hard for the progress of the country, some conspirators have indulged in conspiracies against the country.

They don't want prosperity and peace to prevail in the country. They are creating an unstable situation ahead of the upcoming national elections. In this continuation, they killed our brother Duronto Biplob. We have come to know that no one had any grudges or disputes with him.

But the autopsy report revealed how he was brutally killed. We demand a speedy trial of this murder. I hope the administration will unravel the mystery of this murder and will take proper action."

JU BCL General Secretary Habibur Rahman Liton said, "Duronto Biplob Bhai was a very sociable and good-natured person. His sudden death has shocked us. A preliminary autopsy confirmed her death to be a murder.

So we want more investigation into this case. Through investigation, punishment should be ensured for all those involved in this incident. We expect an exemplary trial. If there is no proper trial, we will go to further strict programs demanding justice."

Earlier, on November 7, Duronto Biplob was missing. Later his body was found floating in the Buriganga river in Narayanganj's Fatullah area on Saturday. He left behind his wife, a daughter, and a host of relatives and admirers to mourn his death.
