Live Correspondent: A seven-day long 'Planning Festival 2022' began at Jahangirnagar University (JU) campus today. The Urban and Regional Planning department of Jahangirnagar University organized the festival marking the silver jubilee ceremony of the department.

JU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr. Nurul Alam inaugurated the festival as a chief guest around 9.30 am. Teachers and students of the department brought out a colorful rally from the social science faculty premises at 10 am.

After parading different streets on the campus, the rally ended in front of the faculty building.

Dean of Social Science faculty Prof Dr. Akbar Hossain inaugurated the photo exhibition event here. Addressing the inaugural session, JU VC said, "Urban and Regional Planning is an engineering subject.

In our university, it would be better if it was included in the faculty of Mathematical and Physical Sciences instead of the Social Science faculty.

I want to establish an engineering faculty at the university where Urban and  Regional planning will be included. The quality of research in this department is very good. The department will contribute significantly to the university's ranking through advanced research."

JU Pro Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Prof Sheikh Md Monzurul Haque, dean of Social Science faculty Prof Akbar Hossain, and Chairman of Urban and Regional planning department Prof Anisa Nuri Kakon among others, were present at the event.

Later, a seminar titled 'Formulation of Urban Planning and Challenges of Implementation' was held in the gallery room of the Social Science faculty at 11:30 am.

The week-long events will include exhibition debates, case competitions, planning documentaries, photography exhibitions, campus cleaning activities, quiz competitions, badminton, football, cricket, and chess competitions, cultural evenings, and a grand dinner.
