Launching ceremony of book on sustainable economy held at DU

IU Live: The launching ceremony of a book titled "Towards a Sustainable Economy: The Case of Bangladesh" held at Dhaka University (DU) on Monday. The launching ceremony was held at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban on DU campus.

The book, edited by prominent economist Dr Kholikuzzaman Ahmad, Dr Moazzem Hossain and Dr Mazharul Islam Rana, was published commemorating the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. It’s the third book of Dhaka School of Economics.

Prof Kholiquzzaman Ahmad presided over the program while DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman was present as the chief guest.

Besides,  DU Pro-VC (Academic) Prof ASM Maksud Kamal, Green University Bangladesh Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Golam Samdani Fakir were present as the special guests.

In his speech, Dr Mazharul Islam Rana highlighted the 4th industrial revolution and post-corona industrial revolution in the green development project.

He said that the environment was not polluted much before the industrial revolution but later the environment is getting more polluted.

Prof Golam Samdani Fakir said, "In the book, the massive changes in Bangladesh's education, garments, agriculture, and economy over the past 50 years have been statistically highlited. However, many challenges have to be faced, one of which is socioeconomic inequality and corruption."

DU  Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman congratulated the editors of the book and said that the different trends of the revolutionary development of Bangladesh, the path of development, innovation and challenges have been well presented in this book.

He expressed hope that the book will play a helpful role in achieving sustainable development goals and making Bangladesh a developed country. He also expressed hope that policy makers, teachers, researchers and students of the country will benefit from this book.
