International Mother Language Day observed at JU

JU Live: The authorities of Jahangirnagar University (JU) on Tuesday observed the Amar Ekushey and International Mother Language Day in a befitting manner on the campus.

Marking the day, teachers, officers and employees of the university paid glowing tributes to the language martyrs, valiant sons of the soil who made supreme sacrifices to establish the rights of the mother tongue in 1952.

JU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr Nurul Alam placed wreaths at the altar of the university’s Central Shaheed Minar at one minute past twelve last night.

Pro VC (Administration) Prof Sheikh Md. MunjurulHaque, Treasurer Prof Rasheda Akhter and deans of different faculties were present at the time.

Later, Jahangirnagar University Teachers’ Association (JUTA), BangabandhuShikkakParishad, Jahangirnagar University Journalists’ Association (JUJA), Jahangirnagar University Press Club, Bangladesh Chhatra League JU unit, JU Employees Association, Employees Union, university halls, different socio-cultural organisations also placed wreaths separately at the altar of the Shaheed Minar.

Besides, teachers and officials of the university brought out a morning procession (PrabhatFeri) around 6.30 am that started from Officers Club and ended at the Central Shaheed Minar of the university.

Teachers, students and officials of Jahangirnagar University School and College along with various cultural organizations participated in the rally.

Meanwhile, the university authorities also organized different programmes on the campus to mark the day.

Marking the day, the national flag is hoisted at half-mast atop of administrative buildings and halls of the university to show respect to the language martyrs.
