Cricketer Al-Amin gets bail after surrender in family violence case

Sports Live: Bangladesh national team cricketer Al-Amin Hossain has received bail from a court in Dhaka in a case filed by his wife over family violence. Metropolitan Magistrate Md Shafiuddin on Tuesday granted bail to Al-Amin after he surrendered before it.

During the hearing, the complainant was present in the court and she opposed the bail petition. Upon hearing both the sides, the magistrate granted him bail upon a bond of Tk 5,000 with two guarantors. The magistrate then fixed October 6 for next hearing of the case.

On September 7, Al-Amin's wife Ishrat Jahan filed the case with a Dhaka court claiming Tk 1,00,000 as maintenance per month under Domestic Violence (Prevention and Protection) Act, 2010.

Ishrat Jahan and Al-Amin got wedlocked on December 26, 2012 according to Islamic Shariah law. They have two sons. The elder son reads in KG I in English Version at Mirpur Cantonment Public School and College. Al-Amin has long been paying the maintenance expenses to his wife and sons, and don't enquire of them. He also does not make any contact with them.

In her complaint, Ishrat alleged that her husband did not provide her maintenance including educational expenses of their two children for the last two years. Moreover, he did not come to the house to look after her and her two children.

At about 10:30pm on August 25 last, Al Amin approched to his wife Ishrat and demanded Tk 20 lakh dowry from her to buy a flat. When Ishrat Jahan refused to bring any money from his parents, Al-Amin injured Ishrat punching and kicking her indiscriminately. He also told her that he would not live with her anymore. Ishrat Jahan then phoned on 999 and police rescued her arriving at her flat. She then took treatment at Suhrawardy Hospital.

Ishrat then filed a case against Al Amin with Mirpur Model Police Station on September 1. In the case, she alleged that Al-Amin tortured and abused her for dowry of Tk 20 lakh.

Around 10:00pm on September 3, Al-Amin's mother telephoned Ishrat and said her son would not continue conjugal life and would not provide her any maintenance. If necessary, he would divorce Ishrat kicking out of her and her sons from the flat. He also sent a photo clicked with another girl to Ishrat, the complainant alleged.

Ishrat also alleged that Al-Amin had not been take care of Ishrat and her sons for two years. She also claimed Tk 40,000 for meeting the expenses of family and Tk 60,000 for the education of two sons in English medium per month.

On September 6, the High Court granted eight weeks' anticipatory bail to Al-Amin after he surrendered before it in another case filed on charges of torturing his wife and demanding dowry from her.
