Legends clinch Pro League 2022 title

Sports Live: The two-day long Pro League 2022 cricket tournament arranged by Professional Club Dhaka concluded amid a festive atmosphere on Friday at the Azimpur 27 No Field in the capital.

Councillor of 26 No Ward of DSCC Hasibur Rahman Manik attended the final match as chief guest and later he distributed prizes among the winners during the prize-giving ceremony.

A total of six teams took part in a 12-over tournament where teams played randomly two games in the first round and four teams sealed the knockout stage ticket.

The final of the match took place on Friday in the evening under the floodlights where Pro Legend pulled off a comprehensive six-wicket triumph over Pro Spartans in the one-sided final to seal the title.

Elected to bat first, Spartans were able to post a challenging 114 for eight in the stipulated 10 overs with Jony top scoring 29 runs which studded three sixes and a four.

In response, Legends chased down the goal with six wickets in hand in 10 overs relaying on Shanto’s blistering 22-ball 36. His innings was laced by four sixes and a lone boundary. Shanto was adjudged the player of the match and the tournament.

He was also the best wicket-taker in the tournament while Jony was the leading run scorer in the tournament scoring 143 runs from seven matches. Shanto bagged nine wickets from seven matches. He also amassed 103 runs with a strike rate of 183.93 which also featured 12 sixes.

Earlier after plenty of sixes, fours and exciting finishes in the round stage, the action shifted into the semifinals where Pro Legends outplayed Pro Lycans by seven wickets in the second semifinal while Pro Spartans thrashed Pro Royals by five wickets to seal the final spot.

The winners of the tournament received trophies and notable performers were also rewarded.

 
The Professional Club Organizing secretary HR Russell said they are expecting many more matches and players will participate in the future editions.

“This is season four and we are organizing the club for the last eight years. Our main motive is always to say no the drugs and always be connected with sports. We are speeding out this slogan everywhere for the young generation.”

“At present seven or eight teams are taking part in the tournament but our plan is bigger and we expect to organize a week-long tournament in the future so that at least 250-300 players can play in this tournament. 

The Professional XI is one of the renowned cricket clubs of Azimpur. They organise seasonal friendly sporting events every year.
