AL announces mayoral candidates for 5 city polls

Live Correspondent: The ruling Awami League (AL) has finalized the names of its mayoral candidates for the elections in five city corporations - Gazipur, Rajshahi, Barishal, Sylhet and Khulna.
The party’s General Secretary Obaidul Quader announced the names after a meeting of AL’s Local Government Nomination Board held at Ganabhaban on Saturday.
AL picked Advocate Azmat Ullah Khan for Gazipur, Abul Khayer Abdullah for Barishal, Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury for Sylhet, Khairuzzaman Liton for Rajshahi and Talukder Abdul Khalek for Khulna.
Earlier on April 3, the Election Commission (EC) announced the election schedule of the five city corporations.
Voting in Gazipur city elections will be held on May 25, Barishal and Khulna on June 12, and Rajshahi and Sylhet on June 21.
Of these, Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) will be used in Gazipur city polls, the EC said.
