Bangabandhu's birth centenary celebrated at JU

JU Live: The birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was observed on Tuesday at Jahangirnagar University (JU) with widespread enthusiasm and befitting manner.

On this day in 1920, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the undisputed leader of the Bangalee nation, the architect of independent Bangladesh and the greatest Bangalee of all times, was born in a respected Muslim family at Tungipara in Gopalganj district.

To mark the day, the university authorities organised daylong programmes on the campus. JU Vice-Chancellor Professor Farzana Islam paid homage to Bangabandhu by placing a floral wreath at his portrait at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman hall around 8.30 pm at the night.

JU Pro VC (Administration) Professor Md Amir Hussain, Pro VC (Academic) Professor Md Nurul Alam, Treasurer Professor Md Sheikh Md Monzurul Huq, Acting Registrar Rahima Kaniz, Deans of faculties, Provosts of dormitories and teachers of different departments and institutes accompanied the VC.

Besides, a wall painting marking the political biography of Bangabandhu’s was displayed on the front wall of Sheikh Hasina Hall. Research books on Bangabandhu’s life and activities were displayed at central library premises.

Historical banner-festoons of various stages of life of Father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was also displayed at the various places of the university.

Meanwhile, a special doa mahfil was arranged at the central mosque, Bismile mosque and Community mosque after Asr prayers. Apart from this, record of the Historic 7th March speech of Bangabandhu was screened on central Shaheed Minar premises and Bismile club of the university.

Earlier, Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) of Jahangirnagar University unit also arranged various programmes marking the day. Leaders and activists of BCL paid homage to the alter of Bangabandhu in front of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall placing floral wreath at 12.00 pm. 

Marking the day, they organised a tree plantation programme, a milad mahfil and special prayer at the mosque along with food sharing with the underprivileged children. Marking the day, the whole university area was illuminated with colorful lights and balanced diet was.
