Live Correspondent: A retired professor of Dhaka University (DU) has been killed when a train ran over him at an unmanned level crossing under Kaliganj Upazila in Gazipur.

Deceased Abdur Rahim Khan, 72, was a resident of NAM Garden Officers Quarters in Mirpur. The accident occurred around 6 pm on Friday when the car, carrying the three, fell into a roadside ditch after being hit by a Chattogram-bound 'Subarna Express' train in the Nalchata area.

The impact of the collision was such that Abdur died on the spot. His wife and driver Soleman Mia sustained injuries and were rushed to Kaliganj Upazila Health Complex.

Later, they were shifted to Dhaka for better treatment, said Kaliganj Police Station SI Pradeep Kumar Saha.

The former DU professor and his wife were heading towards Dhaka's Mirpur in their private car from Tangail district when the accident occurred.

The body was sent to Narsingdi General Hospital morgue for an autopsy, the police officer said.
