Live Correspondent: Stating that a number of allegations have been made by both protesters and the authorities, Deputy Minister for Education Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel on Saturday said the government would carry out an objective and neutral investigation into those allegations of Jahangirnagar University.

He made the remark while talking to reporters in Khagan area of Savar after attending the 6th convocation of Eastern University.

“The protesting teachers and students lodged complaints against the VC with the ministry. Simultaneously, pro-VC teachers submitted some allegations against the protesters,” the deputy minister said.

Nowfel alleged that a number of students are trying to destroy the learning environment on the campus by raising voice against the VC. He expressed optimism, saying the teachers would be able to ensure education-friendly environment there.

JoAnne Wagner, deputy chief of mission at the US Embassy in Dhaka, Professor Kazi Shahidullah, chairman of the University Grants Commission;

Liyakat Hossain Mughol, chairman of the board of trustees; and Dr Shahid Akhtar Hossain, Vice-Chancellor of Eastern University, among others, were present at the convocation ceremony.

A total of nine students of the university were awarded gold medals as part of the day’s program.
