Bangladesh extends holiday till April 25 to check spread of coronavirus

Live Correspondent:The government on Friday extended the on-going holiday till April 25 considering the coronavirus situation across the country, the public administration ministry in a circular said.The public administration ministry declared April 15, 16, and 19-23 general holiday, while April 17, 18, 24 and 25 would be weekends.

The circulars said the holiday should not be considered as other general holidays and asked people to remain indoors to check coronavirus infection.It said none would be allowed to stay outdoors after 6:00pm and legal actions would be taken against the violators of the order.It also restricted the movement of people from one area to another, among others.

The circular also asked the public servants working at divisional, district, upazila and union levels not to leave their stations. All emergency services including utilities, transportation of agricultural goods, fuel, food, medicine, kitchen markets, food shops, pharmacies, newspapers, hospitals will remain out of the purview of the general holidays.

Earlier, the holiday was from March 26-April 4 which was extended to April 11. The holiday later included the next two days and government holiday on April 14 for Bengali New Year.
