The bad condition of roads and extreme suffering of the public

 

Kurigram Live: The bad condition of the main road from Rowmari Upazila of Kurigram District to Bakshiganj Upazila, Jamalpur, causes extreme suffering for the public. Even after four years, the renovation work of this road has not been completed. Due to the road's poor condition, especially in Sherpur, Jamalpur, Mymensingh, and Dhaka, the commuting public suffers untold suffering. It has become unfit to travel on the road. Sometimes many accidents happen. On this main road to Dhaka, from the Dewanganj border to Kartimari, about 9 kilometers of the road have created big potholes. Although the road preparation and renovation work started more than four years ago, several lakhs of people have suffered due to the contractor's negligence and the work's slowness. Development equipment, goods, and loose soil left on the side of the road have created obstacles.

 

Going to the surface, we saw soil on both sides of the road shift, the road broke, and big holes were created. Last Wednesday night, the road was closed after the wheels of transport from Rowmari to Dhaka got stuck in a pothole. Hundreds of vehicles, including trucks, buses, pickups, battery-powered auto-rickshaws, vans, and motorcycles, created a traffic jam. Apart from this, people must constantly suffer because a little rain causes the roads to sink and become muddy.

 

Due to broken and unpaved highways, traffic jams are constantly faced for long periods of time. The heavy dust affects the lungs, and the passengers lose their will to work due to excessive shaking.

 

The local victims said that due to the bad condition of this road, we are facing traffic problems. On the other hand, unbearable traffic jams and road accidents are constantly happening. When asked about this, Mr. Md. Nazrul Islam, Executive Engineer of the Sewage Department, Kurigram District, told reporters that the contractor had temporarily suspended the road work due to excessive rainfall. But I hope the work on the street version will be started very soon.

 

Rajibpur Upazila Executive Officer Amit Chakraborty said, "The road work is stopped due to the indifference of the contractor." In the Kurigram district monthly coordination meeting regarding the matter, I request the DC sir to repair the road as soon as possible. '
