Bangladesh sees sharpest spike in deaths, cases

 

 

Live Correspondent: Bangladesh reported highest-ever deaths and infections from the coronavirus in the last 24 hours till Monday.

Record 21 deaths and highest 1,602 cases were reported during the period, taking the tallies to 349 and 23,870 respectively. 

This is the highest recorded daily tallies of deaths and cases in the country since the first three cases were reported on March 8 and first death was reported on March 18. 

On Sunday, highest 1,273 cases were recorded in the country while record 19 deaths on May 13.

Prof Dr Nasima Sultana, additional director general of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), came up with the disclosure in the daily online health bulletin at the Management Information System (MIS) in the afternoon. 

She said 212 more patients recovered from Covid-19 disease in the last 24 hours, taking the number of people making recovery to 4,585.

Prof Nasima said 9,788 were tested in 42 labs across the country in the last 24 hours. With this, a total of 185,086 samples have so far been tested in the country.

On Sunday, Bangladesh reported 14 deaths from coronavirus and record 1,273 cases.Meanwhile, the global death toll from coronavirus has reached 316,673 as of Monday morning.

Besides, it has so far infected 4,802,024 people around the world, according to Worldometer.

Of the currently infected 2,627,181 patients, 2,582,361 are in mild condition, which is 98 percent, while 44,820 or 2 percent remain in critical condition.

So far, 1,858,170 people have made recovery from the disease.The virus is currently affecting 213 countries and territories around the world and two international conveyances.
