Live Correspondent: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday said her government is prepared to face cyclone 'Amphan'.

"We have the preparations (to face cyclone Amphan). We are taking all possible measures that we should adopt for protecting the lives and properties of the people from the cyclone," she told a meeting of the National Disaster Management Council (NDMC) formed to review the preparations in facing the possible assault of the super cyclone.

The premier joined the meeting from her official residence GonoBhaban through video-conferencing. PM's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed the media after the meeting.

The prime minister expressed satisfaction at the overall preparations ahead of the cyclone and thanked all concerned, including the disaster management and relief ministry, armed forces, police and local people involved in the process.

In this context, she said, "Twenty lakh people have so far been evacuated to the cyclone centres as part of the prior preparation. As many as 13,241 cyclone shelter centres have already been opened to this end."
