Killers of 26 Bangladeshis to be tried: Libya

Live Correspondent: The Libyan government has strongly denounced the heinous killing of 26 Bangladeshis in its southern city of Mizdah allegedly by a gang of human traffickers. In condolence message to Bangladesh, the Libyan Foreign Ministry on Monday promised to bring the killers to justice, describing the murders of 26 Bangladeshis as an act of cowardice. 

The Ministry also conveyed its deepest sympathy to the bereaved families of the victims and the government of Bangladesh.

The Libyan foreign ministry also said they will keep the victims’ families and the Bangladesh government updated on the investigations, the subsequent trial and steps to be taken by the Libyan government in this regard.

Meanwhile, members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) have arrested the kingpin of a human trafficking gang over the killings of 26 Bangladeshi citizens in a gun attack in Libya.

The arrestee was identified as Kamal Hossain alias Haji Kamal, 55, according to a message sent from Rab-3 on Monday. At least 26 Bangladeshi citizens were killed and 11 others injured in a gun attack reportedly by some human traffickers in Libya on May 28.

Different international media also reported the incident claiming that the family of a Libyan trafficker killed 30 migrants in revenge for his death.
