Live Correspondent: The health authorities on Thursday announced the detection of 3,803 new patients in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases to 1, 02,292 in Bangladesh. Besides, 38 more people died of COVID-19, taking the death toll in the country to 1,343, reports UNB.

Additional Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Prof Dr Nasima Sultana came up with the disclosure at a daily online briefing. In the last 24 hours, 61 laboratories across the country tested 16,259 samples, she added.

Bangladesh confirmed its first cases on March 8 and the first death on March 18 but it has been seeing a sharp rise in both new cases and deaths in recent weeks.

In an effort to prevent transmission of coronavirus and improve the situation, the government has issued some directives imposing restrictions on the movement of people.
