Senior defence secretary loses battle against Covid-19

Live Correspondent: Senior Secretary of the Defence Ministry Abdullah Al Mohsin Chowdhury lost his battle against coronavirus at a city hospital on Monday morning. He was 57. He breathed his last at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka around 9:3am, said Additional Defence Secretary Selima Haque.

Bhasani Mirza, administrative officer of secretary’s office, said the senior secretary was admitted to the hospital on May 29 after he contracted coronavirus.
 
He was shifted to the intensive care unit on June 6 and put on life support on June 18 following deterioration of his condition. Abdullah Al Mohsin is survived by wife, a son and a daughter.

He was made defence secretary on January 12 last. He was promoted to the senior secretary only 15 days ago on June 14 last. Abdullah Al Mohsin served as environment, forest and climate change secretary before joining the Defence Ministry.

Born on January 1, 1963, Abdullah Al Mohsin hailed from Chouddagram upazila of Cumilla. Earlier in the morning, Laila Arjumand Banu, wife of Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque, died of coronavirus at the CMH.

Laila Banu breathed her last around 7:45am while undergoing treatment at the Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka, said Sufi Abdullahil Maruf, senior information officer of the Liberation War Affairs Ministry.
