Coronavirus: 21 die, 1637 infected in 24 hours

Live Correspondent: The death toll from coronavirus has reached 5,681 as 21 more people died from the disease in the last 24 hours. Of them, 14 are male and seven are female.

Besides, 1,637 more tested positive for the virus, raising the number of such cases to 390,206.  Directorate General of Health Services said in a press release on Monday. 

In the last 24 hours, 15,146 samples were examined and out of them 1,637 got positive results for the virus. Apart from, 1,627 more recovered from the virus, taking the total recoveries to 305,599, the press release added. 

Bangladesh reported its first three cases of COVID-19 on March 8. 

The new coronavirus pandemic first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year. The World Health Organisation declared the coronavirus crisis a pandemic on March 11.

The deadly virus spread to 213 countries and territories, killing some 1,118,869 people globally, according to Worldometer, a website which compiles number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.

As many as 40,327,145 people worldwide caught the virus. Among them, 30,138,053 people recovered from the virus, the website said.
