Live Correspondent: Law Minister Anisul Huq on Thursday said that the release period of Khaleda Zia is being extended after every six months by suspending her punishment considering her health condition to facilitate taking treatment at home.

"Khaleda Zia got release from jail on two conditions under the section 401 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CRPC). She is now free and undergoing treatment," he said.

The minister said this replying to a question from journalists after attending a view exchange meeting with factory owners and workers and Bangladesh Export Processing Zone Authority (BEPZA) officials at Dhaka Export Processing Zone (DEPZ) in Savar this afternoon.

Anisul said the government released Khaleda from jail suspending her sentence though she is convicted as per the law.

She was freed as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina showed her generosity, responding to Khaleda Zia's family members' appeal citing that she (Khaleda) was sick during the Covid-19 pandemic situation, he added.

Speaking about wage hike of the garment workers, the minister said the wage of the garment workers was increased for ensuring their wellbeing.

Law and Justice Division Secretary Md Golam Sarwar and BEPZA Executive Chairman Major General Abul Kalam Mohammad Ziaur Rahman were present on the occasion, among others.
