UN Women launches book on climate change

Live Correspondent: UN Women Bangladesh has launched a book on the leadership of women in tackling climate change-induced disasters from the ground.

The storybook launched at the inaugural session of a three-day photo exhibition at Bangla Academy in the capital on Wednesday said a news release.

The storybook styled 'From Where I Stand’ is an effort to bring out stories of the women’s journey to resilience.

Disaster Management and Relief Secretary Kamrul  Hasan was the chief guest while Swedish Ambassador Alexandra Berg von Linde and Commonwealth Development Office Director Matt Cannell were special guests on the occasion.

UN Women's deputy country representative Diya Nanda presided over the meeting while program specialist Dilruba Haider made a vote of thanks.

Addressing the function, Secretary Kamrul Hasan said that the pressing concern confronting the globe in the twenty-first century is climate change, followed by gender inequality.

"Without gender equality now, a sustainable and equitable future remains out of reach," he said

 UN Women's deputy country representative Diya Nanda said that the initiative is essential for ensuring women's empowerment, leadership, and long-term growth.

She also stated that if the policy is gender-responsive, gender humanitarian activities will be ensured.

UN Women has been working at the policy level as well as at the grassroots level for inclusive and risk-informed disaster management that addresses the needs of all affected groups including women and girls.
