Live Correspondent: There is a possibility that the United States might withdraw sanctions on the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), said the force's Director General M Khurshid Hossain on Thursday.

"They [the US] were provided with fake and baseless information. In fact, they were misguided. As we have provided them with evidence and documents, they are now satisfied," said the RAB chief while talking to reporters after placing a wreath at the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Dhanmondi Road 32 in the capital.

Khurshid, who was promoted to Grade-1 rank on Tuesday, also pointed out that US Assistant Secretary Donald Lu praised the RAB , during his visit to Dhaka in January this year.

"The RAB works for upholding human rights, but the US was misguided with fake information," he said.

Khurshid said the US had many inquiries and the elite force replied, refuting false information with facts and evidence.

The force (RAB) as well as no member of the force is beyond accountability, Khurshid also said.

"We do not merely deal with the law and order situation, but also work on different [other] issues," he said, adding that many of the force's members have sacrificed their lives while serving the country.

The RAB DG emphasised joint efforts and social awareness campaigns to fight against the country's drug menace.

On December 10, 2021, the US imposed sanctions on the RAB and seven of its current and former senior officials on charges of violating human rights.

Spokesperson of the RAB-Director Legal and Media Wing Commander Khandaker Al Moin and senior officers were present during the homage.
