Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury laid to rest

Live Correspondent: Gonoshasthaya Kendra founder and freedom fighter Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury was laid to rest at Gonoshasthaya Kendra in Savar on the outskirts of Dhaka on Friday.

He was buried in front of Suchana Bhaban of the center around 3 pm after his fifth and last namaz-e-janaza with the participation of several thousands of people.

His son Barish Chowdhury earlier on Thursday said his father wanted to donate his body for medical science and they tried to fulfill his will.

But now they decided to bury him at Gonoshasthaya Kendra, Savar as doctors at Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he studied, and Gonoshasthaya Nagar Hospital which he founded refused to use knife in his boy from respect and love, he added.

Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury, 81, died on Tuesday while undergoing treatment at Gonoshasthaya Nagar Hospital at Dhanmondi in the capital.

He had long been suffering from kidney disease. He was admitted to Gonoshasthaya Nagar Hospital at Dhanmondi of capital Dhaka on April 5 after he had fallen ill critically.
