Naimul Abrar's death: Rule issued asking to compensate Tk 100cr

 

Live Correspondent: The High Court has issued a rule asking why compensation of Tk 100 crore will not be paid in connection with the death of Naimul Abrar Rahat, a student of Dhaka Residential Model College, who got electrocuted during an anniversary programme of Prothom Alo's youth magazine 'Kishore Alo'.

The HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman issued the rule on Tuesday. Deputy Attorney General Bipul Bagmar confirmed the issuance of the rule.

The Dhaka Residential Model College authorities and Naimul Abrar Rahat's father submitted the writ petition to the High Court seeking compensation.

In the writ, Tk 50 crore was sought for the college and Tk 50 crore for the family of Naimul Abrar Rahat. Advocate SM Abdur Rouf appeared on behalf of the writ petitioner.

Advocate Rouf said the death of Naimul Abrar Rahat had seriously tarnished the image of Dhaka Residential Model College because it was clearly stated about the responsibilities of all concerned in the agreement signed with Prothom Alo.

The Prothom Alo organizers were responsible for supplying of electricity there. Because of it, the writ was submitted seeking an order to pay Tk 50 crore to the college authorities and Tk 50 crore to Abrar Rahat's family.

In the afternoon on November 1, 2019, Naimul Abrar Rahat, a Class 9 student of Dhaka Residential Model College, was electrocuted at a programme of Kishore Alo at Dhaka Residential Model College. He was later rushed to Universal Medical College Hospital at Mohakhali where doctors pronounced him dead.

On November 6, Naimul Abrar's father Mujibur Rahman filed a case against Prothom Alo editor and publisher and Kishore Alo publisher Matiur Rahman.

On November 12 last year, Dhaka Metropolitan and Sessions Judge KM Imrul Kayes was directed to frame charges against nine persons including Prothom Alo editor Matiur Rahman.

The court ordered to frame charges against Matiur Rahman, Kabir Bakul, Suvashish Paramanik Shuvo, Muhitul Alam Pavel, Shah Poran Tushar, Jasim Uddin Topu, Mosharraf Hossain, Md Sumon, and Kamrul Howlader. All the accused are now on bail.

However, another accused--Kishore Alo editor Anisul Huq--was acquitted from the case. Later, Matiur Rahman submitted a petition to the High Court against charge framing. The High Court later postponed the case proceedings regarding Matiur Rahman after hearing the petition.
