Live Correspondent: A serial rapist has been arrested by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) during a drive at Jatrabari in the capital on Saturday morning. Arrested Sagar Miji killed a woman in a hotel room at Kolatoli in Cox's Bazar a couple of days ago as the victim tried to resist him to commit rape, DIG Mahfuzur Rahman, commanding officer of RAB-10, said.

"Sagor is a serial rapist," he told a press briefing at RAB Media Centre on Saturday afternoon. A team of RAB arrested Sagar around 11:45 am Saturday along with three mobile phones including the victim's mobile phone, and Tk 15,000 in cash, Mahfuzur Rahman said.

The RAB-10 official said Sagar rented a room at Aamari Resort at Kolatoli in Cox's Bazar on September 18, claiming that his wife will come soon. Two days later, he took the 26-year-old victim into that room and tried to rape her.

As the victim tried to resist him, Sagar hit her head against the wall and later hit her head again with a glass, he said. The next morning, police broke open the door and recovered her body as he fled.

The RAB-10 CO said the woman is not his lone victim. "During primary interrogation, he (Sagar) admitted to raping at least five girls. Two siblings are among the victims," the RAB CO said.

"Sagar calls himself a graduate, even though he studied up to Class four. Using several fake Facebook IDs, he used to develop relationships with girls and women and eventually raped them," he said, adding if anyone tried to resist, he tortured them.

The RAB official said after analysing his Facebook accounts, they suspect that the number of rape victims could be more than a dozen. Sagar will be handed over to Cox's Bazar police in the murder case.
