Cox’s Bazar Live: The Cox’s Bazar district police on Thursday withdrew the officer-in-charge Md Osman Gani of Chakaria police station from his post after his photograph with an accused fugitive while celebrating birthday at the police station went viral.

The OC was withdrawn and attached to police lines through an officer order signed by the Cox’s Bazar police superintendent Md Hasanuzzaman, additional police superintendent (admin) Md Rafiqul Islam told New Age.

The order mentioned that Chakaria OC Md Osman Gani celebrated his birthday at the police station on March 2 where a fugitive Arhan Mahmud alias Rubel and several others were present.

However, Chakaria OC Osman Gani handed over the charge to inspector (investigation) Jewel Islam immediately after the order, Chakaria police inspector (investigation) Jewel Islam told New Age.

Arhan Mahmud alias Rubel was accused in a case filed with Chakaria police station on charge of attempt to murder a man. There was an arrest warrant against him, inspector Jewel Islam said, adding that they were trying to arrest him.

Inspector Osman Gani could not be reached for comment despite several attempts through his personal mobile number.

Osman Gani joined as Chakaria OC four months ago. Earlier, he worked as inspector (investigation) of EPZ police station and detective branch of Chattogram Metropolitan Police.
