BCL leader Zubayer arrested for snatching Delwar Hossain

Live Correspondent: Dhaka City (South) Chhatra League general secretary Zubayer Ahmed has been arrested by Sabujbagh police in connection with a case file against him by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-3. Sabujbagh Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Md Morshedul Islam confirmed it.

The RAB-3 arrested Zubayer on Wednesday night for obstruction to performing government duties. He was handed over to Sabujbagh Police Station on Thursday (May 19) evening.

RAB-3 assistant director (additional police super) Bina Rani Das said some 150 to 200 people led by Zubayer Ahmed tried forcibly to take away Delwar Hossain Saydee who was arrested on charge of committing extortion in the name of the Home Minister.

At one stage, they also launched an armed attack on the RAB-3 personnel. In order to defend themselves, the RAB-3 personnel arrested Zubayer Ahmed. Two RAB-3 personnel were also injured in their attack, she said.

In a press release, RAB also said they arrested Dhaka City (South) Chhatra League vice-president Delwar Hossain Saydee with arms, bullets, and drugs from Sabujbagh area on charges of extorting money using the name of the home minister. During his arrest, a foreign pistol, a magazine, two rounds of bullet, and 578 yaba pills from his possession. He also confessed to the extortion using the name of the home minister, the RAB said.

After the arrest of both Zubayer and Saydee from Sabujbagh, they were taken to the RAB-3 office. On Thursday morning, several former Dhaka City (South) BCL presidents and general secretaries went to the RAB office for securing their release. They also lobbied with the RAB officials but failed.
