Shut down all unregistered news portals in 7 days: HC

Live Correspondent: High Court has issued a directive asking the authorities concerned to shut down the unregistered news portals within the next seven days. A High Court bench comprising Justice Md Mujibur Rahman Mia and Justice Md Quamrul Hossain Mollah issued t5he directive responding to a writ petition.


Two lawyers--Zarin Rahman and Rashida Chowdhury Nilu--filed the writ petition and argued on behalf of the writ.

In its directive, the High Court bench said except for 92 news portals, all news portals which are unauthorized and unregistered, must be shut down.

The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) chairman and the Press Council chairman have been asked to implement the directive within the next seven days.

Meanwhile, declarations of nine Bengali dailies and one English daily, published from Dhaka have been canceled.

The declarations of the dailies which have been canceled are Gana Awaz, Dainik Janasheba, Dhaka Prokash, Jatir Kontha, Kishan, Ei Desh Ei Din, Purbo Alo, Shomoyer Pata, and Reporter.
