3rd death anniversary of Syed Ashraf observed

Live Correspondent: The third death anniversary of former Awami League General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam was observed today in Dhaka and his native district Kishoreganj through arranging various programmes and showing homage to the late AL leader.

Different organisations, including Syed Ashraful Islam Smriti Sangsad, placed wreaths on the grave of Ashraf at Banani here this morning.

AL joint general secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif, its office secretary Barrister Biplab Barua, deputy office secretary Aminul Islam Amin, central committee member Mahrufa Akhter Poly, lawmaker Rubina Mira, AL leader Bolaram Poddar and AL agriculture and cooperatives sub-committee member Anwarul Kabir were, among others, present on the occasion.

Hanif said Syed Ashraful was a very gentle and wise politician of the country. "Syed Ashraf was one of the dependable vanguards of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, and he was a fearless politician", he said.

"The role Syed Ashraf had played during the caretaker government in 2007, when the conspiracy started in the country's politics through the arrest of two leaders, will be remembered forever," the AL joint general secretary said.

On behalf of the family of Ashraf, Syeda Zakia Noor requested the country's people to pray for the eternal peace of her brother. Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Md Tajul Islam and State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain also placed wreaths on the grave of Ashraf on the occasion.

Later, leaders of different social, cultural and political organisations, including Swechchhasebak League and Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote, placed wreaths separately on the grave of the late AL leader.
