Preparation goes on to open Padma Bridge by June

 

Live Correspondent: Preparations are going on to inaugurate the Padma Bridge by June  this year, said Road Transport and Bridges minister Obaidul Quader on Saturday. Quader said, "Padma Bridge construction is almost complete. We're taking preparations to inaugurate it by June.

I can say it firmly that the Padma Bridge work have done with cent per cent honesty. Not a single taka was loaned from anybody else for the bridge. We are completing the construction of Sheikh Hasina's golden project Padma Bridge without taking any foreign loans."

The minister was speaking at an iftar items distribution programme organised by the party's Relief and Social Welfare Sub-Committee at the Awami League central office at Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital on Saturday.

Obaidul Quader said: "We're not loan defaulters. Except Awami League, all the post-1975 government were loan defaulters. Awami League has timely repaid the loan installments in whichever sector it brought the loans. Others have made the country defaulters. They didn't repay the loans."

With Awami League presidium member Matia Chowdhury in the chair, the programme was also addressed by organising secretary Ahmad Hossain, education and human resources secretary Shamsunnahar Champa, Relief and Social Welfare secretary Sujit Roy and central member Sanjida Khanam, among others.
