Live Correspondent: Ruling Awami League has announced its candidates for contesting the by-elections in seven parliamentary constituencies where the BNP MPs have resigned.

Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader announced the names of the candidates of the 'Boat' symbol appearing at Ganabhaban gate following a meeting of the AL Parliamentary Nomination Board on Sunday evening.

Obaidul Quader said, "Following a lengthy discussion at the Awami League Parliamentary Nomination Board, it was decided to allocate the Thakurgaon-3 constituency to Workers Party, a partner of the 14-party Alliance.

The bogura-4 constituency has been allocated to Jasad, while Bogura-6, Chapainawabganj-2, and Chapainawabganj-3 constituencies were allocated to Awami League candidates Ragibul Hasan Ripu, Ziaur Rahman, and Md Abdul Odud respectively."

He also said the Brahmanbaria-2 constituency has been kept open for all.

It may be mentioned that film actor Mahia Mahi bought nomination papers to contest  Chapainawabganj-2 by-polls with the hope of receiving an Awami League nomination.

Obaidul Quader himself also assured Mahi of providing a nomination. However, she was subsequently denied the Awami League nomination.
