75th founding anniversary of BCL today

Live Correspondent: Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), the oldest student organisation in the country, is celebrating its 75th founding anniversary today. Marking the founding anniversary, the student wing of the ruling Awami League has chalked out a year-long programme.

BCL announced the programmes at a press conference held at Madhur Canteen on Dhaka University (DU) campus on Tuesday.

BCL President Saddam Hussain and General Secretary Sheikh Wali Asif Enan, its DU unit President Mazharul Kabir Shayon and General Secretary Tanbir Hasan Shaikat, among others, were present at the press conference.

Today's programmes include hoisting of national and party flags at the party office at 6:00 am, paying tribute at the portrait of Bangabandhu at Dhanmondi-32 at 8:30 am, cutting the cake at Dhaka University's Curzon Hall at 9:00 am and distribution of winter clothes among the needy at 3:00 pm.

Besides, the founding anniversary rally will be held at 2:30pmon January 6. In addition, blood group testing, voluntary blood donation and distribution of educational materials among students will be held between January 5 and 8.

Moreover, the year-long programmes include taking initiatives such as cultivation of vegetables and fruits on uncultivated land, rearing fish and domestic animals up to the ward level of the country, discussion on the topic of 'Smart Bangladesh Building United Student Society' with the leaders of progressive student organisations, organising 'Concert For Smart Bangladesh', arranging a reunion on the occasion of the 75th founding anniversary, publication of the commemorative book titled 'Bangladesh Chhatra League: 75 years of glory, tradition, struggle and success', organising 'Smart Bangladesh Idea Contest', establishing libraries in the party offices of all organisational units, organising nationwide  'Smart Youth Camp' and competition  on 'The relevance of Smart Bangladesh in building the golden Bangla of Bangabandhu's dream' with higher secondary level students, organising 'Short Film Competition' on the development progress of Sheikh Hasina, organising 'Development Quiz' at the university level, organising speech competition on 'Women's empowerment and Sheikh Hasina', SajeebWazed Joy Programming Contest, international academic conference on Smart Bangladesh and Smart Campus, organising Smart Bangladesh Olympiad, arranging tea party with meritorious students from different universities of the country, poster presentation on 'Smart Bangladesh: Our Country, Our Dream' etc.

Since its establishment, Bangladesh Chhatra League has played significant contributions to the country’s all democratic and progressive movements, including the Language Movement in 1952, the Victory of Jukta Front in 1954 polls, the Anti-Ayub Movement in 1958, the Education Movement in 1962, the Six-point Movement in 1966, Mass-Upsurge in 1969, Elections in 1970, Liberation War in 1971, rehabilitation activities in post-war Bangladesh, the movement for restoration of democracy after 1975 carnage, Student Movement in 1983 and Anti-Autocratic Movement in 1990.
