Live Correspondent: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan has said that the government is taking anti-people decisions repeatedly. “A few days ago the price of electricity was increased. Now the price of gas in the industrial sector has increased again. Ultimately, poor people have to bear the burden of it.

The reality is that the government has no responsibility towards the people,” said the BNP leader while addressing at a programme held at its Nayapaltan central office in Dhaka on Friday.

Ziaur Rahman Foundation (ZRF) arranged a food and cloth distribution programme to celebrate the 87th birth anniversary of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman.

Nazrul Islam said, “Today, food-laden ships are not anchoring at port as the government failed to pay the price. People are not getting jobs. No employment. In the meantime, the industry has been put in more danger by increasing the price of gas.”

He said, “We have to fight for establishing a democratic government before Bangladesh falls into more severe crisis.”

Mentioning that the country is going through a very difficult time, the BNP leader said, “A district unit leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League has laundered Tk 2,000 abroad from the country. A country cannot run like this.” He said that they are struggling to build a livable country. “That is why many of our leaders are in jail today.”

Lauding the activities of Ziaur Rahman Foundation (ZRF), the BNP leader said, “Ziaur Rahman himself loved to work for the mass people. Today, the foundation named after him, is doing the same job. Shaheed Zia took all the groundbreaking steps for the people of this country. He built many organizations, including Shishu Academy, and also introduced many laws.”

The programme was chaired by ZRF Executive Director Professor Dr. Farhad Halim Donar. Among others, Dr Ahmed Shafiqul Haider Parvez, Professor Dr. Lutfar Rahman, agriculturist Shamimur Rahman Shamim, advocate Abed Raja and Dr. Parvez Reza Kakan were present at the programme.
