Discussion Session on “Historic 7th March” held at NSU

NSU Live: The first private university and the number one ranked private university of Bangladesh, North South University (NSU) organized a discussion session and cultural program on “Historic 7th March” at NSU on Monday, 07 March 2022. The discussion session was broadcast live on North South University's official Facebook page.

On this day in 1971, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman called for a non-cooperation movement against the then Pakistani ruling class at the historic Race Course Filed (now SohrawardiUddan). In a time-honored speech, he thunderously declared, "This time the struggle is for our liberation, this time the struggle is for freedom."

This call of Bangabandhu spread like lightning all over the country.The whole nation woke up dreaming of independence. This time-honored speech of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is one of the best political speeches in the world.

To commemorate the Historic 7th Marchspeech, NSU organized a discussion session and cultural program at 11:30 AM on Monday, March 7, 2022 after the hoisting of the national flag on the university campusat 6:15 AM. Prof. ABM Rashedul Hassan, Treasurer, NSU delivered the introductory speech at the beginning of the session.
Mr. Azim Uddin Ahmed, Honorable Chairman, Board of Trustees (BoT), North South University was present as the Chief Guest.Dr. Sharifuddin Ahmed, Professor, Department History and Philosophy, NSU was present as the Keynote Speaker.The session was chaired byProfessor M. Ismail Hossain, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, NSUandmoderated by Mr. Jamil Ahmed, TV Presenter & Director - Public Relations Office, NSU.

Speaking as the Chief Guest, Chairman, Board of Trustees, NSU, Mr. Azim Uddin Ahmed said, “Bangabandhu's speech on March 7 inspired us to achieve our independence later.This speech did not only inspire during the liberation war, eventodaythis speech inspires us to build a beautiful country by preventing all kinds of injustices.Bangabandhu dreamed of a society free from hunger and poverty without discrimination. He dreamed of liberation among the people of Bangladesh,today we have established ourselves as a developing and dignified nation in the whole world by overcoming hunger and poverty under the strong leadership of her worthy daughter Hon'ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.I urge the new generation to follow Bangabandhu's idol and make themselves as true Bengalisto play animportant role in buildinga beautiful nation.”

Speaking as the Keynote SpeakerDr. Sharifuddin Ahmedsaid,“Bangabandhu's historic speech on March 7 is now a valuable resource not only for Bengalis but also for the whole world. Recognizing the significance of the March 7th speech, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) recognized the speech on 30 October 2017 as a World Heritage.In just 19 minutes of this speech, the history of oppression and exploitation of 24-years -old Bengalis has come up and the aspirations of Bengalis for independence have come to the fore.Through this speech, he gave all the directions to run our country.We have to remember that history is a matter of practice, history is lost if not practiced.If we want to know the history of our country, we need to know the history of the liberation war, we need to know about the life of Bangabandhu, only then we as a nation will be able to stand with pride in the world as a prosperous nation.”

Pro-Vice-Chancellor, NSU, Professor M. Ismail Hossain said, “In the speech of Bangabandhu on March 7, all the directions for running this country existed andall the development and progress of this country that we are enjoyingtoday is the result of the contribution Bangabandhu made for us.Bangabandhu has fought all his life for the common people of this country and worked very hard to transform the country into the ‘Sonar Bangla’. To fulfill the dream of Bangabandhu, NSU keeps providing all kinds of efforts to inform the new generation about the true history of Liberation War.”
Prof. Dr. Abdur Rob Khan, Dean, School of Humanities & Social Sciences, NSU delivered the thanksgiving speech at the end of the session.North South University ShangskritikShangathan (NSUSS) organized a cultural program after the discussion session.

Among others,Prof. Dr. Javed Bari, Dean, School of Engineering & Physical Sciences, NSU, Prof. Dr. Hasan Mahmud Reza, Dean, School of Health & Life Sciences, NSU, Prof. Dr. Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, Dean, School of Business & Economics, NSU,Directors of various departments, Department Heads, senior officials, faculties and students were also present at the program.
