North South University observes Genocide Day

NSU Live: The first private university and the number one ranked private university of Bangladesh, North South University (NSU) has organized a discussion session on “Genocide Day 2022” at NSU on Friday, 25 March 2022. The historic 25th March ‘Genocide Day’, a day of mourning genocide and brutal destruction. Every year on this day, the nation remembers the innocent martyrs and the heroic fighters with deep sorrow who gave their lives in the resistance of struggle.

Mr. Azim Uddin Ahmed, Honorable Chairman, Board of Trustees (BoT), NSU was present as the Chief Guest. Dr. Nazrul Islam, Visiting Professor, Department of Economics, NSU and valiant freedom fighter was present as the Keynote Speaker. The session was chaired by Professor Atiqul Islam, Vice-Chancellor, NSU and moderated by Mr. Jamil Ahmed, Director, Public Relations Office, NSU. Professor M. Ismail Hossain, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, NSU delivered the welcome speech.

To pay homage to the martyrs of Genocide 1971, NSU organized a discussion session, special prayer, showed the documentary film ‘Stop Genocide’ by Bangladeshi filmmaker Zahir Raihan. NSU observed a ‘one-minute blackout’ to mark 'Genocide Day', recalling the horror black night of March 25, 1971.

Speaking as the Chief Guest, Mr. Azim Uddin Ahmed, Honorable Chairman, BoT, NSU said, “March 25, 1971 was the darkest night in the history of Bangladesh. On this night, the Pakistani aggressors killed the innocent people of this country and carried out indiscriminate genocide. This night is a horrible chapter in the history of the Bengali nation. After the night of the brutal genocide of the Pakistani aggressors, Bangladesh woke up in 1971 at the dawn of the liberation war.”

Speaking as the Keynote Speaker, Prof. Dr. Nazrul Islam said, “Since our country became independent under the leadership of Bangabandhu, we have been able to become a middle-income country. We must not forget the history of our country. If we want to know the history of our country, first we have to study about Bangabandhu and his life. If we want to stand tall in the whole world as a prosperous state, we have to keep the ideology of Bangabandhu in our hearts.

Vice-Chancellor, NSU, Professor Atiqul Islam said, “The Pakistani aggressors carried out a brutal massacre on the innocent people of this country on March 25, 1971. It is the darkest night in the history of Bangladesh. Originally, on March 25, the entire nation united towards the liberation struggle, and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, with his extraordinary leadership and skill, made the dream of liberation among the people of Bangladesh turn into a reality and responded to the brutality of the Pak army.”

Among others, Prof. ABM Rashedul Hassan, Treasurer, NSU, Prof. Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, Dean, School of Business & Economics, NSU, Prof. Dr. Abdur Rob Khan, Dean, School of Humanities & Social Sciences, NSU, Prof. Dr. Javed Bari, Dean, School of Engineering & Physical Sciences, Prof. Dr. Hasan Mahmud Reza, Dean, School of Health & Life Sciences, NSU, Prof. Dr. Gour Gobinda Goswami, Director, Office of Student Affairs, NSU, Faculties, Officials and Students were also present in the program.
