NSU: ‘Bakeman’s 2nd International Language League’

NSU Live: The first private university and the number one ranked private university of Bangladesh, North South University’s (NSU) Department of English and Modern Languages (DEML) a organized the prize-giving ceremony of the country’s largest Language Olympiad entitled ‘Bakeman’s 2nd International Language League’ today at NSU. The program was sponsored by Akij Bakers Limited Biscuit Brand Bakeman. The program was live broadcasted on the Official Facebook Page of North South University.

Bakeman's 2nd International Language League successfully wrapped up with the completion of the Divisional Round, Semifinal round, and Final round. The first season was held in 2019. This season has become more grand. It started in March 2022 and has finished this month.

In total, there were 30,000 participants participated during this time. From all across the country, nationally 29,000 participants were in English and Bangla segments. 1000 participants internationally were in French, Chinese, and German in online segments. The national participants were selected from about 8 divisions spanning 40 districts hosted by 28 institutions with various schools, colleges, and universities all over Bangladesh.

Mr. M. A. Mannan, MP, Honorable Minister, Ministry for Planning of Bangladesh, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh was present as the Chief Guest. Mr. Azim Uddin Ahmed, Honorable Chairman, Board of Trustees (BoT), North South Universitywas present as the Special Guest. Mr. Sk. Jamil Uddin, Director, Akij Baker’s Ltd was present as the Guest of Honor. Professor Atiqul Islam, Vice-Chancellor, North South University chaired the event.Dr. AQMA Rahman Bhuiyan, Professor & Chairman, Department of English and Modern Languages (DEML), NSU delivered the welcome speech. Coordinator of ‘Bakeman’s 2nd International Language League ’Mr. Md. Mehedi Hasan moderated the program.

Speaking as the chief guest, Mr. M. A. Mannan, MP, Honorable Minister said, “We are fortunate to have a glorious history in our Bengali language. This language has united our Bengali nation. There are also many Bengali entities found outside of Bangladesh.”In the meantime, he told to the new generation, “Knowledge has no boundaries, you can find all knowledge and science in our language. It is very important for you to read Bengali language and history of our country.” He thanked North South University, all the collaborators and sponsors for organizing the country’s largest Language Olympiad entitled ‘Bakeman’s 2nd International Language League’.

The Honorable Chairman of the Board of Trustees of North South University, Mr. Azim Uddin Ahmed thanked the Department of English and Modern Languages of NSU, all participants, organizers and sponsors for organizing such an event and mentioned that, “We will look forward to future cooperation from North South University for such types of initiatives.”

Mr. Sk. Jamil Uddin, Director, Akij Baker’s Ltd said, “We have given our lives for the language. I think such initiatives will further encourage our new generation in language practice and play a special role in boosting their morale.”

Professor Atiqul Islam, Vice-Chancellor, North South University congratulated all the winners and participating national and international students in the Bakeman’s 2nd International Language League competition. He said, "Language is a medium of communication. When you go abroad, you will understand the importance of language." At this time, he expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation to all those who worked behind organizing this competition.

Among others, Prof. Dr. M. Ismail Hossain, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, NSU, Prof. ABM Rashedul Hassan, Treasurer, NSU, Prof. Dr. Abdur Rob Khan, Dean, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, NSU, Deans, Directors of various departments, Department Heads, Senior officials, Teachers and more than a thousand students and their parents from different schools, colleges and universities of the country competing in Bangla, English, Chinese and other languages were also present during the program.
