IUB observes Sheikh Russel Day

IUB Live: Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) observed the 58th birth anniversary of Sheikh Russel, the youngest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, through a painting competition and a tree-plantation program on the campus.

On Thursday, October 20, 2022, the painting competition was held at the amphitheater area on the IUB campus. Students from different schools, along with IUB students, took part in the competition.

In the junior division, Ruqayyah Aleya Manha, a student of class two at the Lords School won the first prize. Arpa Saha Borna, a student of IUB’s Computer Science and Engineering Department won the first prize in the senior division.

IUB Vice Chancellor Tanweer Hasan, PhD, gave away the prizes to the winners. Earlier on Tuesday, October 18, 2022, IUB students organized a tree plantation program on the campus in observance of Sheikh Russel Day 2022. IUB Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan, Ph.D., joined the program alongside members of the faculty and administration.

Sheikh Russel was born on October 18, 1964, at their historic family home (now the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum) in Dhanmondi road number 32 (old) in Dhaka.

He was brutally assassinated along with his father, mother, uncle, brothers and sisters-in-law on August 15, 1975. He was only 10 years old at the time.
