NSU Live: North South University's Public Health and Sciences Club recently organized a seminar on the Consumer Rights Protection Act 2009 in collaboration with the Directorate of National Consumer's Right Protection.

The objective of the event was to make people aware of their rights when they purchase any goods or services from a vendor. This event taught the NSU community what to look for in a product or service to avoid fraud.

In particular, it was encouraged to purchase packaged goods where proper leveling of the manufacturing and expiry date are visible, and the price and weight of the goods are accurately mentioned.

Participants also obtained information about what sort of actions might be taken to make the dishonest vendors responsible for their misconduct.

It was emphasized that the Directorate of National Consumers Protection alone cannot prevent such misconduct unless every citizen of the country steps up and protect against such fraudulent activities.

The importance of the protection of consumer rights was also discussed by the university Pro-VC Dr. Md. Ismail Hossain, dean of SHLS Dr. Hasan Mahmud Reza, chairman of Public Health Department Dr. Mohammad Delwer Hossain Hawlader, and advisor to Public Health and Sciences club, NSU Dr.Azaz Bin Sharif.

Directorate of National Consumers Right Protection director general A H M Shafiquzzaman was the keynote speaker at the seminar and shared his knowledge and experience of human rights laws and practices with the participants.

Directorate of National Consumers Right Protection director Monjur Mohammad Shahriar delivered the welcome speech to introduce the activities of the directorate.
