Live Correspondent: The law ministry has recommended for BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s release from jail suspending her punishment for six months on humanitarian ground, media reports.

Law minister Anisul Haq on Tuesday revealed this at a press conference at his Gulshan office. The minister told that the government has decided to free BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia from jail suspending her conviction orders upon two conditions.

The conditions are during this period the ailing BNP chairperson will receive medical treatment staying at her Gulshan residence and not leaving the country.

Mentioning that the decision was taken as per Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s directive, Anisul Haq said a proposal has been sent to the ministry of home affairs asking for a suspension of Khaleda Zia’s punishment for six months considering her age and humanitarian ground.

Khaleda Zia has been in jail since she was convicted in the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case on February 8, 2018.
