Four injured in AL’s factional clash in Chattogram

Chattogram lives: At least four people were injured as two factional groups of the Awami League locked in a clash at a discussion meeting at Chandanaish Upazila in Chattogram on the occasion of National Mourning Day.
 
The incident took place at a community center in the Hashimpur area of the Upazila around 7 pm on Monday. Of the injured, three are Upazila unit AL leader Abu Ahmed Chowdhury June, Ward No- 9 councilor Lokman Hakim and Juba League leader Nurul Amin.
 
A group of Chhatra League vandalized the community center after the incident. There was a long-running dispute between the two rival factions of the BCL in the union.
 
Police and eyewitnesses said Hashimpur Union unit Awami League started the meeting in the afternoon. The union unit president Mahmudul Haque Babul chaired the program while South District unit Awami League general secretary Mofizur Rahman was present as the chief guest.
 
At the end of the program, while President Mahmudul Haque Babul was giving a speech, the leaders of the deposed BCL of the union attacked and engaged in a clash with another group.
 
Witnesses said several rounds of gunfire were heard during the clash. Later, Chandanaish Police Station OC Nasir Uddin Sarker rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
