Concerned citizens demand punishment for Chhatra League attackers

Live Correspondent: Politicians, academics and professionals on Monday at a protest rally in Dhaka called on the government to take immediate steps against the unruly activists of the ruling party’s student front Bangladesh Chhatra League who were leading attacks at different educational institutions across the country.

Udbigna Obhibhabak O Nagarik Samaj, a platform of concerned guardians and citizens, organised the protest rally in front of the National Press Club preside over by writer Rakhal Raha.

Poet and writer Farhad Mazhar said that the government was trying to make the country leader-less in future.

It was very bad sign that the ‘cadres’ of ruling party student front were attacking on the students of opposition camp, Farhad said.

‘I support the movements of the youths for restoration of democracy and democratic rule in the country,’ Farhad added.

If the judiciary was free they could take steps for establishing the rights of the people of the country, he said.

Former Jahangirnagar University professor Dilara Chowdhury called on the students and the youths to come forward to resolve the ongoing political crisis of the country.

BNP central leader and also a former student leader Habibur Rahman Habib said that if people could terminate the Awami League regime in the next general elections, the attacks of Chhatra League would be stopped.

Ganosamhati Andolan chief coordinator Zonayed Saki called on the students and the youths to join the movements of the opposition parties against the government for restoration of the democracy in the country.

Gono Odhikar Parishad member secretary Nurul Haque Nur called on the government to take immediate steps to stop the repressions by Chhatra League.

Gono Forum general secretary Subrata Chowdhury, Naitik Samaj convener ASMA Amin, Kalyan Party chairman Syed Muhammad Ibrahim and others spoke at the rally.
